The Combat Wounded Veteran Mountaineering Challenge is a SCUBAnauts International initiative dedicated to the rehabilitation of our Combat Wounded Veterans. The "Challenge" focuses on the complete recovery of these heroes, by supporting them in achieving sustained superior performance in extreme mountaineering environments. For our nation's sons and daughters, brothers and sisters, moms and dads who have been severely injured in the line of duty in defense of our country, the Challenge provides a physically and psychologically demanding mountaineering climb as a vehicle to overcome the concomitant challenges of their injuries.
These wounded warriors, home from the battlefields of our nation's wars and undergoing extensive rehabilitation, are offered privately funded mentor programs to remote mountainous regions of the world, and are fully immersed in arduous and demanding mountaineering expeditions while attempting to summit major peaks. During a multi-week expedition, they encounter high altitude, arctic cold, and hurricane force winds while crossing crevassed glaciers and scaling near-vertical ice and snow. Their exceptional performance under challenging conditions is an inspiration to our SCUBAnauts and all Americans. |
